MEET THE TEAM: Mike Galvin

Born and raised in Connecticut, Mike began working in construction while still in high school, gaining hands-on experience across residential and commercial projects—from demolition and roofing to finish carpentry and cabinetmaking. He continued working in the trades while earning his BFA in Furniture Design and Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

After graduation, Mike worked for a home builder outside Missoula, Montana before returning to Connecticut to pursue his MFA in Sculpture and Painting. Alongside his formal training, he continued building—eventually launching Galvin Carpentry and Design, where he focused on custom woodworking, kitchens, and baths.

His career has spanned both construction and the arts, including managing a New Haven-based arts nonprofit, building sets for Walter Wick’s Can You See What I See series, overseeing a top 100 contemporary art collection in New York City, and facilitating an artist residency program.

In 2014, Mike founded Heartwood Renovations to bring together his deep construction experience and formal design training. Today, he leads the company with a commitment to craftsmanship, clear communication, and work that stands the test of time.
