MEET THE TEAM: Marcos Bernardes
Marcos Bernardes is a longtime Connecticut resident and entrepreneur whose career began in arboriculture, training in evidence-based tree care and technical removals with Bartlett Tree Experts. Early on, he became one of the few climbers in the area regularly handling complex removals in tight locations where heavy equipment couldn’t be used.
Marcos later founded Litchfield Organic Landcare, where his work expanded into soil biology, custom native landscape design, pruning, and technical tree removals. Over time, clients began asking for structures to complement their landscapes—and Marcos found himself drawn to building. He began as a self-taught “green carpenter,” then broadened his skills through apprenticeships with experienced carpenters across the state, gaining hands-on experience in everything from framing and formwork to trim work.
That progression ultimately led him to Heartwood Renovations, where he’s focused on finish work and thoughtful building—bringing the same discipline, precision, and care he developed in the trees.
When he’s not on a Heartwood project (or spending time with his wife and husky, Max), Marcos can still be found climbing now and then—if only for the view.
